Sonny Bono (1935-98) was a singer, actor, record producer, music arranger and politician. He wrote, arranged and produced Sonny and Cher’s hits, and he produced and arranged some of Cher’s later solo recordings. He and Cher were married for 11 years.
A one-time mayor of Palm Springs, California, Bono became a US Congressman and co-sponsored a bill extending copyright in the US by 20 years. He died in a skiing accident in 1998.
I took this now battered and scratched old photograph of him during a rehearsal break at ABC Television’s Wembley studios on 26 May 1966 (that's his wife standing in the background with the microphone lead).
