Summary

Description
English: Song selectivity of HVCx neurons in swamp sparrows. Sketch based on figure from Prather, J. F., Peters, S., Nowicki, S., Mooney, R. (2008). "Precise auditory-vocal mirroring in neurons for learned vocal communication." Nature 451: 305-310.

This graph shows neural activity over time when hearing the primary song (represented as יהיהיה) and another song (λλλλλ).

  • Two repetitions of the primary song result in two bursts of activity.
  • The primary song followed by another song results in a burst of activity followed by very little activity.
  • Another song followed by the primary song results in very little activity followed by a burst of activity.
