Summary

Description
English: The house system, a traditional feature of British schools, can also be found in many South African schools. The pupils of Fairbain College are divided into three houses for intra-mural competition. The aims of the house system are to encourage a spirit of friendly competition and sportsmanship within the College, involve as many pupils as possible, especially those who are not good enough at sport to be chosen for inter-school events, build up the Esprit de Corps of the College and create positions of leadership for pupils and thereby promote their personal growth. The three houses were named after British Governors of the Cape Colony who had great influence on the development of the Cape; Lord Charles Somerset, Sir George Grey and Sir George Napier.
