Summary
DescriptionSome of the Tesla Model 3 design sketches (26200187902).jpg |
The Tesla Design Studio is next to SpaceX in LA. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jurvetson/26147878656">Franz</a> and team have sculpted a visual beauty, while achieving an impressively low coefficient of drag (essential to EV efficiency). I recently <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/jurvetson/23106699373">interviewed Elon</a> about design and aesthetics, and he offered a fascinating <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVk1hb0ZOrE&feature=youtu.be&t=43m15s" rel="nofollow">peek into his mind</a>. I stayed with the subject and by <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVk1hb0ZOrE&feature=youtu.be&t=45m53s" rel="nofollow">minute 46 to 48</a>, he describes his visceral agitation with imperfection, and the need to shut that off sometimes. After “the highest single-day sales of any product of any kind ever in world history” (<a href="http://electrek.co/2016/04/07/tesla-model-3-production-plans/" rel="nofollow">Electrek</a>), the first week rolled in “325,000 reservations, which corresponds to about $14 billion in implied future sales, making this the single biggest one-week launch of any product ever. This interest has spread completely organically.” (<a href="https://www.teslamotors.com/node/16632?utm_campaign=Blog_Model3_040716&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=social&no_cache=1460043845" rel="nofollow">Tesla Blog</a>) And in the category of the surreal, here is a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFtJR5yhutU" rel="nofollow">Tesla racing a Boeing 737</a>... The new performance metric: Zero-to-liftoff in X seconds. =) |
