Summary

Description
English: Image of a meteorite officially called Heat Shield Rock. This is a basketball-sized meteorite made of about 7 wt% metallic nickel and about 93 wt% metallic iron. The small grey-blue spherules clearly visible behind the meteorite are "blueberries" and made of grey hematite (mostly). Heat Shield Rock was the first of five (or six) large meteorites found by the rover Opportunity. All just sat on top of the Meridiani soils.
