Summary

Description
English: This is a wide-view of a large field of plains ripples soil bedforms. The individual soil ripples are usually 10-40cm tall and 1.5m to 4m wide. In the foreground of this picture there substantial patches of sediment outcrop. In fields of plains ripples the fraction of sediment outcrop varies from almost nothing to majority sediment outcrop. Visible on top of the outcrop are fairly (~10cm) blocks. These blocks are most likely crater ejecta thrown from small nearby crater impacts. Other possibilities are that they are meteorites or crater ejecta from distant craters (that might not be Meridiani sediments). These fields of plains ripples are large (from a few Km2 to many Km2). The individual plains ripples are smaller than dunes and move slowly (or not at all) relative to dune movements.
