Description

"Convent du Sacrament". Lithograph by Henry Lewis depicting the sinking of the steamboat "Brilliant" on the Mississippi River by Bayou Goula, Louisiana. Assistance is being given to the survivors by the US Mail Ship "John Randolph and various rowboats. The School & Convent of the Sacred Heart is seen in the background.

Notes: The sinking of the "Brilliant" took place 29 September 1851, as result of a boiler explosion, resulting in some 47 deaths.
