Summary

Description

Side of a funerary couch (Northern Qi dynasty, 550–577 CE) depicting Sogdian festivities, found near Anyang, Henan. Gray marble with traces of pigment; 65.3 x 105 cm. Musée National des Arts Asiatiques-Guimet in Paris. Other slabs from the same couch are held by the Museum für Asiatische Kunst in Cologne and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; one is missing. The base is held by the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington.
