DescriptionShittlehope bridge with spate ford - geograph.org.uk - 1565774.jpg
English: Shittlehope bridge with spate ford Not only the River Wear was in spate, but also the Shittlehope Burn. Here it is overflowing its banks and making the road over the bridge interesting. Although there is quite a fast flow across the tarmac, it's not very deep, as the canoeists speaking to the driver were able to demonstrate by wading through it. This was taken about six hours into the rain event, as the rainfall was easing off, but the river was still rising by an inch every couple of minutes.
