Description: A French Army "Sherman" tank lands on a Normandy beach from USS LST-517, 2 August 1944. Note the plaque, reading "SOMUA", mounted in front of the tank driver's hatch.

note #1: This tank, named Ile-de-France, belongs to the 12e Régiment de Chasseurs d'Afrique who was previously fielding SOMUA S35 tanks.
note #2: Tank commander is named "Baillou", soldiers acclaiming it from the LST are French and this place is Utah Beach[1].
