English: Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri manifests his intention to be made co-author of Senate Bill No. 2243 otherwise known as the Act Strengthening and Revitalizing the Salt Industry in the Philippines. The measure seeks to boost the production of salt in the country. According to a study conducted by the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, salt production accounts for only 16.78 percent or 114,000 metric tons of the Philippines’ 683,000 metric tons annual demand. Zubiri noted the significance of the bill as he congratulated Sen. Cynthia Villar for sponsoring the measure. “Hopefully, it will help all coastal communities to produce salt once again,” Zubiri said as the bill breezed through final reading Monday, September 11, 2023.
