Summary

Description
English: Schematic of the Dungey cycle flow mapped into the ionosphere, where the arrowed solid lines are the plasma streamlines, the short arrows give the direction of the electric field, and the dashed line in the OCFB. The direction of the field-aligned currents is indicated by the circular symbols, such that the circles with a dot represents upward current, while the circles with a cross indicate downward current. Adapted from Cowley (2000).
