Summary

Description
English: First generation Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs). These are emergency radio transmitters that are carried on ships. In the event that the ship sinks, the beacon is activated and broadcasts a radio signal that is picked up by a search and rescue satellite (SARSAT) to find the ship. They transmit on the international SARSAT frequency of 406 MHz, and some also transmit a low power homing signal on 121.5 MHz.
