Location: Broad Meadow Brook, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA
Observation Notes: Collected under mixed hardwoods. Pileus irregular but nearly circular, about 8 cm diameter. Phillips’ “Mushrooms of North America” gives the beginning of the season for this as August, but this specimen was old enough to have had the stipe largely hollowed out by larvae. Likely to be mistaken for an Albatrellus at first glance. I have never seen this species in the field before. The specimen resides at Clark University, Worcester, MA.
