Description
English: Sapper John Bray (Sydney Morning Herald, 30 Dec 1916, p12). Bray was a miner from Canbelego, New South Wales, Australia, who died in action as a Sapper in the 3rd Tunneling Company of the Australian Imperial Force, in France, on 12 September 1916. (More on his life and war service here: https://digitize-vwma.s3.amazonaws.com/I/documents/4400/file/BRAY_John_1409.doc and https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/141655 ) He was buried at the Pont du Hem Military Cemetery, at La Gorgue Nord, France. A memorial to him appears on his mother's gravestone ( https://austcemindex.com/inscription?id=9092595#images ) in the cemetery at Canbelego, now virtually a ghost town.
