DescriptionSandfields Pumping Station - Interlocking sectors (geograph 6404029).jpg
English: These are on an 1873 built Cornish engine and ensure correct sequencing of the valve events. I believe these are also known as scoggans but am struggling to track down the definition. The upper one is on the exhaust arbor and the lower one on the equilibrium. As the piston is at the top of the cylinder the exhaust valve is open and preventing the equilibrium valve opening until the engine has completed its indoor stroke. There is evidence of considerable wear.
