DescriptionSalwick 2 railway station geograph-2161678.jpg
English: Up expresses racing at Salwick.
View westward, towards Blackpool and Fleetwood. This is another shot taken on the thrilling Summer Saturday (1 August 1959) I spent there, cf. SD4632 : Salwick Station, with trains racing: here the trains are coming from Blackpool - the opposite direction. On the left is Hughes/Fowler 5P4F 2-6-0 No. 42775 on an unidentified Relief, that on the right is headed by Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45428 on the 09.35 Blackpool North to Nottingham. (No. 45428 has been preserved and nowadays carries a nameplate, 'Eric Treacy' - in memory of the celebrated railway photographer and Bishop of Wakefield).
