This was built in 1958 on the site of Lake Road Particular Baptist Chapel (1822), one of the largest Nonconformist churches in southeast England. It passed to the Salvation Army in 1876 and was rebuilt in the 1890s. Bombed in 1941, it was replaced by the present citadel in 1958.
