Summary

Description
Deutsch: Schlachtschiff SMS Bayern
English: BAYERN (German Battleship, 1878-1919) Caption: Photographed by Arthur Renard of Kiel in a photograph dated 1893; however, these ships are believed to have been painted black until 1895. BAYERN was extensively modified during 1895-1898 by Schichau of Danzig.
The NHHC caption is incorrect; Bayern was among the first vessels to be painted blue/gray in 1893 as part of a trial of the new paint scheme, so the 1893 year is likely correct.
