Summary

Description
English: These images show the discovery of the new Uranus satellite S/2003 U3 each about 7 minutes in exposure time taken about 30 minutes apart on UT August 29, 2003 with the Subaru 8.3 meter telescope atop Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The motion of the satellite clearly stands out compared to the steady state background of stars and galaxies. Uranus is not in the field, but is about a quarter of a degree to the North of these images. In the lower right corner is a main belt asteroid which trailed during the exposure because of its faster motion than the satellite. Images on the right are the same as those on the left except that they have a yellow circle showing the location and movement of the new satellite.
