According to the inscriptions of the Parantaka Chola I, the name of this village was Perangur and the deity of this Shiva temple was called Thirumoolasthanamudaiya Mahadevar.The lower portion of Vimana of this temple has been constructed with granite stones and the upper portion with brick and mortar.A measuring scale of chola period has been engraved in the sanctum sanctorium.The sculpture of this temple are exquisite.
