Photo of the crowd gathered at the en:Frank E, Campbell Funeral Chapel in New York City for the funeral of Rudolph Valentino in August 1926. The funeral home was then located on Broadway.
Because the INP stamp isn't very clear on the photo's back, an example of it has also been uploaded; the addresses and style of stamp match.
Since en:Rudolph Valentino died in August 1926, the photo had to have been taken by the news agency at that time. A copyright renewal search was done in artworks for the years 1953 and 1954. This was a division of en:International News Service and was bought by United Press International in 1958. There were no results for International News Service or International News Photos.
Further, since the back of the photo indicates that the Minneapolis Sunday Tribune published a copy of the photo on September 22, 1946, another search was done in periodical renewals for the Minneapolis Sunday Tribune for the years 1973 and 1974. There were no renewals for the newspaper.
On the basis of both searches, there's no evidence that copyright continues to be claimed on this material.
Note that it may still be copyrighted in jurisdictions that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works (depending on the date of the author's death), such as Canada (70 years p.m.a.), Mainland China (50 years p.m.a., not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 years p.m.a.), Mexico (100 years p.m.a.), Switzerland (70 years p.m.a.), and other countries with individual treaties.
