Description

1865 photograph of 13 of the original 28 Rochdale Pioneers. In 1844 they established the highly influential Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers, a successful consumer co-operative that established a model replicated by other co-operatives nationally and internationally. Back row left to right: James Manock, John Collier, Samuel Ashworth (1825-1871), William Cooper (1822-1868), James Tweedale, Joseph Smith.
