Italiano: La tela ritrae Pio VIII (1761-1830) il cui pontificato durò solo due anni (1829-1830). Il Papa è rappresentato in atto di benedire, seduto su di una ricca poltrona con braccioli ricoperti di velluto e nappe. Il personaggio vestito di una mantellina rossa profilata di pelliccia bianca. A sinistra regge una lettera indirizzata a Sua Santità. Dietro la sua poltrona si scorge dipinto lo stemma papale con tiara e chiavi pontificie.
