See Commons:Deletion requests/File:Richard Norris Wolfenden.jpg, where the submitter, an expert on Wolfenden, asserts the photo was not published elsewhere before the relevant print came into his possession. He also implies that he received the relevant photographs from someone who inherited them via several people from the photographer, in doing so apparently receiving the posthumous copyright. Separately, if the work had been published by the Chaplin Jones of Kingston who was taking photographs in 1885, it is likely (though not certain) that the copyright would have expired before the 1996 extension of copyright duration to author's life plus seventy years (from author's life plus fifty years). On the other hand, a photographer called Chaplin Jones had an assistant, Elsa Megson, after the second world war.
