Summary

Rhabdolepis macropterus (Bronn, 1829) - fossil fish from the Permian of Germany. (CMC VP7206, Cincinnati Museum of Natural History & Science, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA)

Also known as Amblypterus macropterus.

From museum signage: Thick-scaled fish, such as this example from Germany, Amblypterus macropterus, dominated Late Paleozoic aquatic habitats. Known as palaeoniscoids, the primitive nature of these fish is demonstrated not only by their heavy scales, but by their asymmetrical tail. (Note that the primary axis of the tail runs through the upper fin.)
