English: Tail-piece woodcut for 'The Partridge' in Thomas Bewick's History of British Birds, Volume 1, Land Birds, 1797. The woodcut shows a reaper seeing that he has just killed a partridge which was sitting on a nest of a dozen eggs in the cornfield.
