The saturation of the color at any point indicates the magnitude of the spherical harmonic at that point and the hue of the color at any point indicates the phase of the spherical harmonic at that point. |

 | The factual accuracy of this graphic is disputed. The attribution of m=-1 and m=1 numbers to the real-valued spherical harmonics is incorrect. The depicted harmonics are rather superpositions of +m and -m. Correct naming is possible in terms of x, y and z. |
