English: Map of Mediterranean Basin. First tapestry of the series dedicated to the Conquest of Tunis in 1535 by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, and its allies. Jan Vermeyen presents the Western Mediterranean Sea map. This is the first south-up oriented map in the History. This Spanish set of the Conquest of Tunis was woven after the original cartoons (now in Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Sammlungen des allerhöchsten Kaiserhauses) designed by Jan Cornelis Vermeyen & woven by Wilhelm de Pannemaker in 1549-1551.
Español: Jan Vermeyen como historiador y cosmógrafo presentando el mapa. Paño I de la serie dedicada a la Jornada de Túnez (1535). Los tapices que se encuentran en el Real Alcázar fueron elaborados entre 1733 y 1744 por la Real Fábrica de Tapices, a cargo de Jacobo y Francisco Vandergoten, y eran una réplica de los elaborados en el s. XVI por el taller de Wilhelm Pannemaker, según los cartones pintados por Jan Vermeyen y Pieter Coeck van Aelst (ahora en el Kunsthistorisches Museum, Viena). Representan la llamada Jornada de Túnez, la conquista de Túnez por Carlos V, y está compuesta por los siguientes paños: El mapa (Paño I), Toma de la Goleta (Paño VII), Toma de Túnez (Paño IX), Saqueo de Túnez (Paño X), El ejército acampa en Rada (Paño XI) y Reembarque de la Goleta (Paño XII)
