Qing Dynasty - Dungan Rebellion
A Moslem revolt erupted during the mid 19th century in China on the Northwestern part of the Empire which is modern day Xinjiang and Qinghai provinces. Also known as the Dungan Rebellion, it was one of the bloodiest rebellion rivalled only by the Taiping Rebellion. Led by local Moslem Hui and Uighur leaders, they established an independent khanate covering major cities such as Kucha with local administration and coinage in the image of Islamic and Chinese coins. Rashidin Khan al-Khoja was one such leader but held more a spiritual role as compared to the real power behind the leaders such as Yaqub Beg and Generals of the Rebellion. It was eventually crushed by the Qing military forces led by Zuo Zongtang resulting in much bloodshed.
