Description
English: This is a copy after Raphael's famous painting known as "La Belle Jardinière," "the beautiful gardener," painted ca. 1507, in the Louvre, 122 × 80 cm (48 × 31½ in.). The Walters copy is only slightly smaller. Although Raphael's painting was commissioned by a Sienese patron, for most of its history it has been in France. It is difficult to date copies, but this one could be from the later 1600s when the original painting is known to have belonged to Louis IV.
