Title: James Skinner, Tazkirat al-umarā

Content: Biographies of the princely families of Rajputana, Haryana and Punjab, written by Colonel James Skinner (1778-1841) before 1830, the date of the earliest copy. Contains a list of contents (ff. 1v-2v) and an introductory poem of five verses (f. 3v) to Sir John Malcolm (1769-1833) to whom the volume was presented. It is illustrated with 38 portraits by various unnamed artists

  • Binding: Bound in gold-stamped leather; text block decorated round the fore-edge, top and bottom
Ownership: Presented by Skinner to Sir John Malcolm. Purchased by the British Museum 9 December 1865 from General George A. Malcolm, Sir John's son
