Summary

Description
English: Substances that are Radioactive A common source of alpha particles in the welding environment is thoriated used in many TIG welding electrodes. Alpha particles do not travel very far, and are effectively stopped by the layer of dead skin on the outside of our bodies. However, alpha particles have a great deal of potential to cause harm. If they are released inside the body, as a result of inhaling or ingesting a dust that emits alpha particles they can cause damage to the lungs or digestive system
