English: Function approximation of noisy samples from 1-x^2-2*exp(-100*x^2) (red) using Gaussian radial basis functions with spread 0.1, five trials (blue).
Note the high variance near -0.4 and 0, where different training datasets produce very different approximations. The RBF overfits the data points. |
