Italiano: Maschera facciale Sulaw - Maschera antropozoomorfa di forma ovale, fronte bombata con corna, ampli occhi quadrati forati e lungo naso diritto che si allarga procedendo dall'alto verso il basso. Anche la bocca sporgente è forata e di forma quadrata.
Le maschere sulaw rappresentano una "scimmia" (il colobo nero) e accompagnano gli iniziati della società Korè al loro rientro al villaggio al termine delle prove sostenute nello spazio iniziatico della boscaglia. Nell'iniziazione i giovani maschi vengono circoncisi, "uccisi al Koré" (Colleyn 1998) e rinascono come adulti; sottrarsi alla prova (alla fame, alla sete e ai maltrattamenti dei più anziani) significherebbe restare nel mondo delle donne. Un centro iniziatico raggruppa i giovani di più villaggi dando luogo a una rete di alleanze inter-comunitarie. |
