Summary

Description
English: The coat of arms of the municipality of Alba Iulia, according to annex no. 1, it consists of a rounded shield with triangular edges, a shield cut into a strip and a bar, with three quarters. In the first quarter, azure, is the crusading bird of Romania, gold, accompanied by the sun on the right and the moon on the left, also gold. In the second quarter, in a red field, the silver head of Moldavia is represented, accompanied on the right by a luminous ray and on the left by a new crescent moon, also silver. Between the horns of the bull is a silver star with five rays. At the top of the shield, in a golden field, on a black terrace of seven hills, there are two lions rampant, facing, red, holding a black sword between their paws. In the chief, in a field of ermine, is the steel crown of Romania, in natural color. The shield is surmounted by a crossed eagle emerging. The meanings of the added elements: The crown in the chief, placed on the ermine, is the crown of Romania. It recalls both Romania's independence, obtained in 1877, and the achievement of the Great Union in 1918. The crusader eagle, the bour's head and the rampant lions are the traditional symbols for the provinces of Romania, whose unity was completed in 1918. The crusader eagle located on the mural crown signifies the rank of capital of the United Principalities during the time of Michael the Brave and is the distinctive sign adopted for all the localities, former capitals of the Romanians, throughout history. The mural crown with seven crenellated towers signifies the fact that the locality has the rank of county seat municipality.
