English: This scroll and card for a Memorial Plaque was issued to Mrs.
Amanda Carroll of Halifax, NS. Her husband, an experienced soldier who joined the RCR with the so-called "Manchester draft" in 1907,
was Sgt. John Carroll. He died in France, of a gunshot wound on the 28th of November 1915; it is said that Sgt. Carroll was the first victim of the First World War. (Description taken from the description of this artifact within the RCR museum)
