Summary
DescriptionRéthoville Église Saint-Martin Chœur Vitrail Baie 2 2013 09 01.jpg |
Église Saint-Martin, Réthoville, Manche, Basse-Normandie, France English: Second window in the south wall of the choir (counting from west to each), depicting John 1:29: The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Note that Saint John the Baptist carries a staff with an attached scroll which reads ECCE AGNUS DEI that translates to Behold the Lamb of God and which is an excerpt of the Latin text: altera die videt Iohannes Iesum venientem ad se et ait ecce agnus Dei qui tollit peccatum mundi. This stained glass window belongs to a set of windows in the choir of a very similar design where the neighboring window is signed Hucher et fils. successeurs. According to the signature, the window was created during the period 1880–1889 when Eugène Hucher (1814–1889) and his son Ferdinand Hucher (1850–1903) were directors of the stained glass workshop of Carmel du Mans, located in Le Mans which existed in 1853–1903. See Stéphane Arrondeau: Le fabrique de vitraux du Carmel du Mans (1853–1903), Université du Maine, Thèse de doctorat, 1997, for a history of this workshop. |
