  • Date unknown: Baron von Thyssen-Bornesmiza collection, Netherlands
  • By 1965: Museu de Arte de São Paulo, São Paulo
English: Previously attributed to Quentin Massys (by Larsen and other experts), this painting is now thought to be by a close follower from his circle, perhaps a copy of a Massys' original, certainly inspired by a series of drawings of "grotesque heads" by Leonardo da Vinci. There's a replica of this composition in a private collection in New York, also attributed to Massys by Larsen.
