English: BUILT IN 1861. CHURCH STARTED AS ST. PETER’S GERMAN R.C. CHURCH BUT AS THE GERMAN ELEMENT MOVED IT BECAME THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN R.C. CHURCH IN NEWARK. MARTIN LUTHER KINGS VISITED HERE. BECAUSE OF DECLINING MEMBERSHIP IT WAS DECIDED TO CLOSE THE CHURCH AND IT WAS SCHEDULED FOR DEMOLITION WHICH IS NOW UNDERWAY

AS YOU CAN SEE THE CHURCH IS WELL ON THE WAY TO COMPLETE DEMOLITION AND PROBABLY WILL BE GONE IN ANOTHER ONE OR TWO MONTHS, HOWEVER THE SIGN FOR THE CHURCH STILL REMAINS ON THE REMAINING FRONT BESIDE THE DOOR
