Summary

Description Serving with the 55th Illinois Infantry at the age of 14, Orion Howe volunteered for a dangerous mission during the battle for Vicksburg and was seriously wounded below Stockade Redan. For his bravery, Orion was awarded the Medal of Honor—one of the youngest to earn it. PresidentLincoln appointed him to the US Naval Academy.
