Summary
| Description |
English: Edakkal caves are near Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. Edakkal means "a stone in between".
Discovered by the British India police official Fred Fawcett in late 19th century, the caves contain extensive Neolithic Age petroglyphs, as well as a few Tamil and Brahmi inscriptions from later era. The earliest scholarly article on them appeared in 1901. Excavations of the sandy floor have yielded more prehistoric, ancient and medieval era stone carvings. |
