Pots in which Twin Babies were Exposed
Image of three clay pots lying on the ground in a clearing. Such pots were used to expose twin babies.; It was the belief in Calabar that if a women had twins one of them had to be a devil so the twins were left in the jungle in such pots to die. Mary Slessor, the Scottish missionary, successfully fought against the practice of killing twins at infancy and herself saved many twins from this fate.
