Summary
[edit]Description |
Postally used Machins postage stamps on a piece. Used to mail a Christmas card from the UK to the US. Image is used to illustrate the semi-oval cuts which, combined with gum which is not water-soluble, renders reuse of lightly or uncancelled used stamps difficult. Attempts to remove the stamp from the paper will, unless great care in taken, separate the perforated ovals from the body of the stamp. |

Portion used | |
Low resolution? |
The iridescent background on the stamps is not visible on this scanned image. |
Purpose of use |
The image illustrates cut ovals which, combined with used of gum which is not water soluble, make separation of the stamps from the paper very difficult without the cut ovals becoming separated from the postage stamp creating holes in the stamp. |
Replaceable? |
No. The stamps themselves are the subject of critical commentary, and as all stamps of this design are copyrighted without free licenses, any replacements would violate both copyright law and counterfeiting law. |
