Summary

Description
English: Possibly Guru Har Gobind (another theory is that it depicts Guru Har Rai) with an attendant. The Guru holding a staff in one hand and mala prayer beads in another may represent the Sikh concept of miri-piri (temporal & spiritual authority going hand-in-hand with one another), with the staff representing temporal power and the beads representing spiritual power. Punjab plains, circa 1730–1750. Opaque watercolor on paper. Asian Art Museum. Gift of the Kapany Collection.
