Summary

Description

English: Engraving of a house door, which was discovered by Martins Sarmento during archaeological work in the hillfort de Sabroso, in the municipality of Guimarães, in northern Portugal. The upper part of the door, known as the lintel, was not found, so the element in the figure comes from the nearby hillfort of Citânia de Briteiros, where doorways that were very similar in terms of decoration were discovered.

The piece numbered 2 is a pottery shard, while number 3 is a bronze plaque, both of interest due to their intricate decoration.

This image was published on the Occidente magazine No. 44, of the 15th october 1879, and scanned by the Hemeroteca Municipal de Lisboa.
