Portion used |
This partially cropped image is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image. |
Low resolution? |
Yes. The image is only 350 pixels square, much degraded from the original photo quality. The risk of interfering with the photographer's commercial opportunities is very low. |
Purpose of use |
This is a historically important picture showing the short-lived 5-piece line-up of Pink Floyd, a subject of public interest. The significance of the image is to help the reader identify the band, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the band, and illustrate the band's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey. The image is only one of approximately three taken during a several-week period when both Gilmour and Barrett were members of the band in Dec 1967/Jan 1968 time frame. |
Replaceable? |
Picture is from only known photo-shoot of all five significant members. A free equivalent that would convey the same intended image and same information is not available. The only free images show 3 or 4 members. The only known photos that show all 5 band members together are copyrighted and owned by the same photographer. A free equivalent cannot be created now, because two of the band members are deceased. In addition, the free images are from a later era in the band's lifespan: 1970s and later. This picture uniquely captures the band's persona in their formative 1967-1968 timeframe. |
