The image Pikemen_musketeers.jpg is being linked here; though the picture is originally copyright I (-- Elisson Talk) feel it is covered by fair use because:

  1. No free or public domain images are available that demonstrates the tactic as good as this drawing.
  2. The use of the picture in the article adds significantly to the understanding of why the allotment system was such a successful system.
  3. The drawing is relatively simple and very similar drawings ([1]) are available, lessening the uniqueness of this particular drawing.
  4. The use of the picture in the article does not lessen the value of the work in any way.
  5. The copy taken of the drawing is of inferior quality (even if large).

  1. No free or public domain images are available that demonstrates the tactics of a battalion at battle during early 18th century as good as this drawing.
  2. The use of the picture in the article adds significantly to the understanding of why Swedish formations such as battalions still kept on using 6 meter longs pikes and the general tactics that was adopted by Gustav II Adolf. The article describes three known formations and the 6 men deep formation with two lines of pikers in the middle is an essential part to illustrate the effectiveness.
  3. The drawing is relatively simple and very similar drawings ([2]) are available, lessening the uniqueness of this particular drawing.
  4. The use of the picture in the article does not lessen the value of the work in any way.
  5. The copy taken of the drawing is of inferior quality (even if large).
