English: Historic Building Survey plaque: "45 Pierce-Field Building, 1885. An example of a typical retail structure of the late 19th century, The Reed Wyman Hardware Company was managed by E.C. Field and J.C. Pierce. In 1908 they formed their own hardware store. Deliveries were made through a sidewalk access to the basement. A slide carried the merchandise to the basement, and a pulley system was used to send merchandise to the street level. A butcher shop, adult book store and men's furnishings have also been tenants."
