Description
English: Map of Pickett's Charge; July 3, 1863, en:Battle of Gettysburg
The bold red arrows on this map give the false impression that the troops led by General Tremble were positioned immediately to the north (left) of Pickett's division. This is not the case. Pettigrew's (Heth's) division consisting of the brigades under Fry, Marshall (Pettigrew's own), Davis, and Brockenbroug were to the left of Pickett in that order. Tremble's brigades (Scales and Lane) were supporting Pettigrew though as the attack neared its peak, the units became jumbled. This map gives the reader the false impression that Pettigrew's position was to the far left of the line.

Source The map is based on Sears, Stephen W., Gettysburg, Houghton Mifflin, 2003, ISBN 0-395-86761-4, p. 427. After some other research, I agree that Sears's map is confusing. I've updated this map. Hal Jespersen 2 June 2008 (UTC)

This battle map image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Picketts-Charge.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
